Saving the Insects

Designing Interactive Systems is the definitive companion to the study of human-computer interaction (HCI), usability, user experience (UX) and interaction design. For this semester we took part in the IKS course, where we had to design an interactive system that not only displays data and facts
visually but also contributes to knowledge transfer. In our case, it could be an interactive
exhibition, website or application.

Research

Insects are everywhere. They are, by far, the most common animals on our planet. Without insects, our lives would be vastly different. Insects pollinate many of our fruits, flowers, and vegetables. We would not have much of the produce that we enjoy and rely on without the pollinating services of insects, not to mention honey, beeswax, silk, and other useful products that insects provide. That is the reason why we decided to raise awareness about the importance of insects.

Concept

In order to raise awareness about the importance of insects, our idea was to make an informative web application. The user can interact with the interface and get information about the topic. The user will be informed about the impacts, the causes and the solutions to this phenomenon.

Prototype

Using Framer we coded our prototype to make it interactive. The user has two possibilities, either to click on the desired field or swipe between the screens. Our goal was to make a reduced prototype, to make the user focus on the content but with a combination of a playful, interesting, fun, 3D world animations, that is related to the selected topic.

3D Modelling

Animation is really important because the animation gives the life to the elements which help to communicate the audience in an effective manner. Therefore we had the idea to create a 3D animated world, to make it easier for the users to conceived and relate to the information read. We used Cinema4D to create our 3D world. All the objects are also Cinema4D objects that we created.
